Bernedoodles are a mix between Poodles and the Bernese Mountain dog.
Most dogs registered with the AKC are purebreds, and not even all the purebreds are registered with the AKC because they have some conditions and rules that need to be applied to all dogs. Still, there are other clubs, such as the UKC and CKC, so let’s find out if Bernedoodles can be registered.
So, can Bernedoodles be registered? No, Bernedoodles can’t be registered with the AKC. You can register them in the AKC purebred alternative listing or with the united Bernedoodle registry; however, mixed breeds can earn some AKC titles in sports such as tracking, rally, obedience, coursing ability tests, and agility.
That’s not the complete answer; there is still more to that, so keep reading to learn more about the conditions and the registration.
Can Bernedoodles Be Registered With AKC?

Before I answer that, here is a quick introduction to the AKC.
The American Kennel Club is the world’s largest all-breed registry, they have more than 190 recognized breeds, and they are still counting.
Bernedoodles, unfortunately, can’t be registered with the AKC.
The American Kennel Club does not recognize Bernedoodles as a breed.
However, the AKC provided the canine partners’ program so you can register all mixed breeds, so all the dogs that are not fit for the AKC purebred registration or the AKC purebred alternative listing.
All you need for that program is to fill out the form, start getting training and care for them, and try to contact some experts to get more information about the world of dog sports.
All dogs should be neutered or spayed before applying. Before registering in the canine partners’ program, you should check if your Bernedoodle is not eligible for the PAL or the AKC stock service program.
With that being said, it should be noted that you should not pay a premium for any dog breeder claiming that their Bernedoodles are “Registered” and that you should check out the paperwork yourself and do so thoroughly to understand exactly what they mean by this, since, as we explained, they can not be AKC registered the way Purebred dogs, like purebred Golden Retrievers, for example, can be registered.
Can Bernedoodles Be Registered With The UKC?
The UKC is an international registry, and they recognize over 300 separate breeds.
They believe that every breed has its standards, and they can be described by people familiar with breeds, such as the UKC judges and some trusted breeders.
The Bernedoodles can’t be registered with the UKC because the United Kennel Club does not consider combining two existing breeds as a brand new breed.
The UKC recognition committee can consider a request for a breed of an existing breed from an individual or a reputable breed organization.
Can Bernedoodles Be Registered With The CKC?
The CKC is the Canadian Kennel Club; they are the primary registry body in Canada for purebred dogs.
Bernedoodles can be registered with CKC because the Canadian Kennel Club believes that all dog breeds deserve to be registered.
They are one of the first registries to let mixed breeds or non-purebred breeds be registered.
Here is how you can write your Bernedoodle with CKC:
- The Bernedoodle should be at least six months old
- If you want, you can apply for the non-purebred canine registration form.
- You will need two witness signatures with a required photograph.
- If the Bernedoodles’ parents are CKC registered, you will need to have a copy of the registration certificate for the canine parents to submit the canine application.
Are Bernedoodles A Recognized Breed?

Bernedoodles are not a recognized breed because they are considered a hybrid breed, so The AKC does not recognize Berndoodles.
However, some organizations such as the CKC, the American Canine Hybrid Club, and the designer breed registry recognize Bernedoodles.
If you want a dog that the American Kennel Club acknowledges, you should consider getting purebred such as poodles, Bernese mountain dogs, Golden retrievers, or Labrador retrievers.
Do Bernedoodles Come With Papers?
Most dogs come with papers, and if you are adopting them, the shelter will provide you with all the documents you need.
If you buy them from a breeder, they should provide you with health clearances that prove they are tested and cleared from certain conditions, but they won’t have AKC registered papers.
They should also provide health clearances for both the parent breeds.
However, if the breeder refuses to provide you with the required documents or has many excuses, you should not proceed with this purchase.
Instead, find another breeder willing to provide you will the documents you need, or you can adopt the pup from the shelter; you may also check the rescue groups and hopefully get what you are trying to find.
